if you look at the distribution of people with purported DID in these online circles, versus actual DID patients in real life, you'll see that the statistics are really skewed. it's unrealistic that every third-fourth person you encounter online has such an illness.

Maybe I give people benefit of the doubt a bit much, but spaces online also include people who are overseas... And how distribution of people in general online is really skewed, because of how easily accessible it is. You can always ask the same how many people have ADHD or autism, or something like that. While people may be faking, people may also just be mistaken.

That's my thoughts at least :p

I understand what you mean (And I hope I'm not intruding the conversation with this comment!) But it's because in the rentry space, most people make rentries to talk about themselves. Of course it might appeal to people who are lgbtq+, mentally ill, uses more labels than the majority of the internet would, etc etc. You only see it in every third-fourth person because of the difference in what online space you're in compared to other people. People with DID are often in more expressive spaces (such as rentry) because the majority of other online spaces are unsafe and judgmental towards them. You seeing them so much is because of the specific spaces you're in on the internet, not on the internet as a whole /nm /info (I'm sorry for the lengthy response! Just wanted to get my opinion out)
