i think if people cared about actually being right then they would have more civil debates and arguments but considering people immediately resort to aggression and refuse to listen to people who have different or opposing views it seems like people just want to Feel right and morally superior

Moreso, I think it's less about their personal view and more about judgment from others. LOOKING morally correct may have better affects than feeling it. The feeling tends to come from reassurance, right?
